DiRead Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-05-16

DiRead is designed to work primarily on-device. This policy explains what data the app handles and how it is used.

Data the app handles

DiRead may handle the following user-provided data on the device:

  • pasted text entered by the user
  • EPUB files selected by the user
  • reading progress and reading speed settings
  • reading display preferences, including context words, theme, and playback mode
  • language preferences for English/Spanish reading and voice playback
  • locally saved document metadata such as title and source URI for imported EPUBs

How data is used

This data is used only to:

  • display text for focused reading
  • support Android text-to-speech playback
  • remember reading progress
  • reopen saved texts
  • refresh imported EPUBs from their original source when available
  • support in-app reading features like Table of Contents, Search, and Current Book information

Voice playback

DiRead uses Android text-to-speech for voice playback. DiRead itself does not send book text to a developer server or a cloud voice service. Text-to-speech behavior may depend on the voice engine installed on your Android device.

Data sharing

DiRead does not upload pasted text, EPUB contents, reading progress, or preferences to developer servers. DiRead does not sell or share user data.

Data storage

DiRead stores reading data locally on the user's device. Users can remove local app data by deleting saved texts in the app or by uninstalling DiRead.

Permissions and file access

When a user imports an EPUB, DiRead may retain access to the selected file URI so the EPUB can be reopened or refreshed later if the original source is still available.

DiRead may show a media playback notification while voice playback is active so playback can continue in the background and be controlled from Android media controls.

Third parties

DiRead does not include ads, user analytics, accounts, cloud sync, or in-app purchases at this time.
